Techniques of metal fabrication

Metal fabrication involves cutting, manipulating and assembling of metal material to produce metal products such as automotive frames, building panels, roofs, fuselage panels for planes among others.   There are different techniques used during metal fabrication and at Moorland consults, we mostly rely on 3 basic processes that is cutting, bending and assembling.

  1. Cutting

Cutting is the process of metal fabrication where metal is cut into one or more pieces of raw material to be used in the creation of a new metal structure or product. Any type of metal whether steel, aluminum, iron or others, cutting requires special tools, at Moorland consults we use torches, water jets and  numerical control (CNC) machines involving laser to cut the metals . After cutting the next step is cleaning, appropriate-sized sheets or sections of metal which will be used to creating the new product.

  1. Bending

After cutting the raw metal, the next step of the process is bending again and this is done in different ways, this is done by hammering the metal sheets or sections into the desired shape. Hammering can be done by hand or using a machine (power hammering). Also press brakes are used to bend the metal, this heavy industrial machine automatically presses metal sheets and sections into a specific shape when engaged. It essentially clamps the metal between a punch die forcing the metal into desired shape.

  1. Assembling

The 3rd and the final process of metal fabrication is assembling, this process involves assembling the metal sheet or sections into the desired finished product. Assembling is performed via welding, crimp seams, applying screws or other fasteners and glue can be applied. After assembling the metal, making the product is finalized.
